eTrack makes very light use of the SQL Server database and cannot be the cause for the server or eTrack running slow. Desktop machines will also make little difference to the sped eTrack runs. Microsoft Small Business Server (all editions) install a Small Business Server Reporting service which runs continuously recording monitoring data about your server. This database gets used a lot and due to the continuous logging of data causes the transaction log to grow very very large, in some cases this transaction log has grown to more than 2 Gigabytes in size. When this happens the database server strugles to cope with the large log and starts eating up server CPU time causing everything on the server to run slowly. The best way of detemrining whether eTrack is causing this or SBS monitoring is to shutdown the eTrack database temporarily and re-check server processes. If CPU usage is still high with eTrack database stopped then the sqlservr.exe process hogging the CPU will be the SBS monitoring database and maintenance is required from IT support to trucate the transaction log to restore server peformance.Truncating of the monitoring database transaction loog is a mandatory practise which should be revisted periodically as a part of general Small Business Server Maintenance so that performance issues do not arise again in a few months time.
