The way to get this is to do the following:

  1. Set preserve option to the last one No gaps nor leads
  2. Create the dependency as normal
  3. Refresh the schedule view (to redraw the effort based on the dependency).

For any existing plans with dependencies you can set the preserve options as per 1 above (No Gaps nor leads) and right click on either the task you wish to have ‘snap’ into place or alternatively perform the right-click level at a higher point to level a larger portion of the plan.
