The restore should work seamlessly providing the correct options are selected whilst restoring the database.
The procedure to restore is the following:
1. Open Enterprise manager
2. Create test database to be used for restore NOTE: This is not a production database please be certain this is being restored into TEST environment
3. Right click on database to restore to
4. Select All Tasks Restore database
5. Choose From Device
6. Press Select Devices, then Add
7. Browse to restore file on Server
8. Press OK then OK again
9. Now comes the tricky part:
a. Go to the Options TAB (see image below)
b. Click Force restore over existing database.
c. You now need to re-type the PATH for the database files on Your Server in the Move to physical file name column. (By default these will be path names and file names will be from the server SQL Server is good like that).
d. Once you have done this press OK
The database restore will work correctly.
